One of the most notable games of the round was surely GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and this year’s European Individual Chess Champion GM Ernesto Inarkiev. Ernesto took his time and played with caution. After 44 moves the game ended with a draw.

The confrontation of Turkey’s top players GM Alexander Ipatov and GM Dragan Solak, was another important game worth watching. This game also ended with a draw after a long battle.

IM Vahap Şanal, who had received his GM title at beginning of July, beat his opponent Rad Cannesar. With the draws in the first 2 boards and wins in the last 5 boards, Deniz Su Aqumatch have managed to win the 4^th round with a 6-2 score.

Round 3: Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Wins the Crucial Match

The third round of the 2016 Turkish Is Bank Super League had an important match for the title contest between Deniz Su Aquamatch and Hatay Metropolitan Municipality. In an unexpected fashion, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality comfortably declared their 6.5-1.5 victory over Deniz Su Aquamatch. T.S. Alyans maintained its place at the top after sweeping Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality with a solid 8-0 while another strong contender for the top, Kayseri Sugar Sports Club, won 6-2 against Bosphorus University. 1920 Maraşspor and Turkish Airlines won by the slightest of margins against Taş Duvar and Tarsus Zeka. After two rounds of defeat, ITU sped up its pace against Akdeniz Vida and bounced back with a 5.5-2.5 score. Reigning champion Beşiktaş had its second draw after not being able to overpower Onur Koleji of Ankara. T.S. Alyans, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality and Kayseri Sugar Sports Club are leading at the top by retaining their perfect score after three rounds. The fourth round will host another crucial match for the struggle to the top: Deniz Su Aquamatch will be playing against Beşiktaş.
