Round 8: Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Is Still Undefeated |
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality’s unstoppable rise still continues in the eighth round of 2016 Turkish İş Bank Chess League. Still have not undefeated, Hatay Metropolitan Municipality is at the top with a perfect score followed by Kayseri Sugar Sports Club and Deniz Su Aquamatch that have 14 points each.
1920 Maraşspor 5 – 3 Beşiktaş
The odds were not necessarily in favour of reigning champion Beşiktaş in the 8th round. Despite the draws on the first two boards and two victories on female boards (female & U16 female) where WGM Kübra Öztürk and WCM Çağıl Irmak Arda beat WIM Khayala Isgandarova and Bengü Sena Ayan, Beşiktaş lost on all other boards against 1920 Maraşspor with a final score of 5-3 for 1920 Maraşspor.
T.S Alyans 3 – 5 Hatay Metropolitan Municipality
Round 8 was a crucial round both for T.S Alyans and Hatay Metropolitan Municipality. GM Ivanchuck declared his victory against GM Savchenko. Apart from WCM Ece Özbay’s win on the last board against WCM Sinem Çağla Gündoğan, there were 4 draws and 3 wins in favour of Hatay. Former Women’s World Champion and reigning European Women’s Champion Anna Ushenina’s with GM Anna Muzychuk was one of the noteworthy matches that resulted in a draw.

Beşiktaş 2 – 6 Hatay Metropolitan Municipality
One of the turning points of the confrontation of last year’s champion and one of this year’s strong contender for the top was surely IM Umut Atakişi’s game against GM Barış Esen. IM Atakişi’s blunder left no room for him to win against GM Esen.
After 2 consequative losses yesterday GM Ivanchuk played against GM Mamedyarov. Following Mamedyarov’s blunder, Ivanchuk ended his losing streak and won.
Turkey’s top GMs, Dragan Solak and Mustafa Yilmaz’s game was surely another game to watch. Due to playing on the Turkish National team for long years, they knew each other’s openings and game strategies well. Dragan managed to turn this situation to his advantage and declared victory against Mustafa. |

Round 5
Hatay Metropolitan Municipality and Kayseri Sugar Sports Club continued their winning streak in the 5th round. Turkish Airlines is just behind them with a 9.0/10 score.
Without a doubt, all eyes were focused to the confrontation of last year’s 2nd place winner Deniz Su Aquamatch and one of the strongest contenders for the top, T.S Alyans.
On the first board, GM Ernesto Inarkiev GM Boris Savchenko of T.S Alyans. Despite that Inarkiev had blundered after his 33rd move, he managed to defend his position against his opponent. After five hours into the game, Inarkiev - Savchenko game ended with a draw. Admittedly, five draws and two wins carried Deniz Su Aquamatch to the victory with a 4 ½ - 3 ½ score.
On the third board, GM Dariusz Swiercz who had white pieces, a victory over GM Kıvanç Haznedaroğlu. GM Haznedaroğlu received his first defeat in the league. |
